Madikeri: “Through science and research, one can find numerous solutions to various problems in the world. Hence, we must strive towards evoking an interest in science within students,” said State Education Minister Suresh Kumar.

Addressing the gathering at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan during a science exhibition titled “Avalokana”, he said, “Nowadays, children are not interested in science but in engineering.”

Quoting the examples of prominent scientists like Dr. Kasturirangan and C N R Rao, he said that looking at such scientists students must develop an interest towards science.

Opining on today’s education system, the minister said, “These days, education has become just a business. The true motive of the education system, service, is long forgotten.”

Kodagu Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan school president K P Uthappa said, “Science exhibitions help in developing a sense of interest towards academics in students.”

Meanwhile, children who won in the district’s young scientist competition were felicitated. Chinmaya P and Lekhana Muttakki won the first and second places respectively
