Madikeri: “Unorganized labourers who earn Rs 15,000 per month and are in the age group of 18 to 40 years, shall immediately be urged to register under the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Mandhan (PM – SYM),” Deputy Commissioner Annies Kanmani Joy told the officials of the labour department.
Chairing a meeting on labour department-related programmes on Thursday, January 16, she suggested to the concerned officials, “Unorganized labourers can deposit anywhere from Rs 58 to Rs 200 towards the PM – SYM scheme and once they attain the age of 60, they can draw a pension of Rs 3,000. The government will also contribute towards a monthly deposit. It is necessary that the officials create awareness among the unorganized labourers on the scheme.”
District labour officer Ramakrishna informed that the target of registering 9,000 unorganized labourers under the scheme has already been taken up, of which, 1,031 have been enrolled.
“The unorganized labourers will be included under the ESI and PF schemes. For this, the labourers have to register by January 30,” he said.
DC Annies Joy said, “The education department officials shall work towards admitting children to schools and if any child labour cases are found, arrangements must be made for such children to be taken to the rehabilitation centres.”
