Madikeri: An alternative road is being constructed at Makkandur, which was reduced to rubbles by the recent catastrophic floods landslides. However, this couldn’t have been achieved if not for the Sincon Estate owner Ashok Kumar Shetty. He has been generous enough to donate three acres of land for road construction.

The people have have hailed Shetty for his noble gesture.

As the roads were totally damaged, it was impossible to reconstruct them. A huge investment was needed to construct a bridge. The estimated cost of the construction was said to be crores of rupees. MLA Appachu Ranjan had initiated a meeting with the estate owner and requested for a share of his land to which he agreed to give away land from his estate.

Due to this gesture, the cost of reconstruction has been reduced considerably. People are able to heave a sigh of relief. If this decision was not taken, then commuting and transportation would not have been possible. People including students, labourers and government officials had to climb a hill and walk through uneven terrains to reach their destination.
