Madikeri: The heavy rainfall and winds continuing across the district have left behind a trail of destruction in the district. Scenes of uprooted trees, collapsed structures and houses were a common sight across the district. Roads in many areas of the Madikeri City Corporation were submerged, affecting traffic movement.
The Shree Bhagandeshwara Temple was submerged under the overflowing floods of the Cauvery, Kannika and Sujyoti Rivers. Villages in the vicinity of the temple are cut off from the district centre.
The incessant rainfall in the Bhagamandala and Talacauvery areas has created dangerous floods. These areas received about 13 inches of rainfall in 24 hours. District administration is undertaking rescue operations and people are being evacuated from the flooded areas using boats and rafts.
The ground has turned soft by the increased water flow. People living in hilly areas are in danger of landslides.
Due to increased rainfall, coffee and pepper plantations are hit with the rot disease or “Kole Roga.” The farmers fear the crop yield will be low this time around.
