Madikeri: The news of possibility of heavy rains in Kodagu district has been circulating in the media since a couple of days. There were misapprehensions also that the natural calamity in the district during the last year’s monsoon will repeat this year.

The Kodagu District Administration has brought the matter to the notice of Karnataka State Natural Disaster Management Centre (KSNDMC), following which its director has submitted a clarification report.

The report states, “Kodagu district and most parts of Kerala state had witnessed heavy rainfall and natural calamities last year. However, so far no systematic scientific research has confirmed any such possibilities this year. Last week’s rainfall in the district was the regular pre-monsoon shower and not a result of any natural disaster.”

“Any natural disaster to be caused by climate and geological imbalance will be intimated to the departments concerned and the people well in advance,” said the KSNDMC Director.

Deputy Commissioner of Kodagu District, Annies Kanmani Joy has asked the people of the district not to pay heed to the reports circulating in the media claiming heavy rains in the district and panic. The DC has urged the people to contact KSNDMC helpline number 080 67735999 for official information on weather and rainfall.
