Madikeri: With Ganesh Chathurthi and Bakrid festivals coming up during first and second week of September respectively, District police organised a preparatory meet to ensure adequate security is in place for peaceful conduct of the festivals.

District Police has urged the locals to make sure that they have the required permit from the authorities concerned to put up banners, buntings etc and also an NOC from the police department.

Addressing the meeting Deputy Commissioner Dr Richard Vincent D’Souza and Superintendent of Police P Rajendra Prasad have urged the local residents to co-operate with the police and the district administration to ensure that no untoward incidents take place during the events. The SP said that there are several buntings and hoardings which have already been installed in the district. He said that putting up buntings is not a problem, but what needs to be tracked is the location where the buntings and hoardings have been put up.

He said that extra care is being taken specifically about the location of buntings and banners because in the past several episodes of unrest had cropped up due over the content and location of the banners and buntings respectively.

Assistant Commissioner Dr Nanjunde Gowda said that the district has sensitive and hyper-sensitive areas, which need to be handled with care.
