Madikeri: Sport Meets unite people of different communities and fructify the thought of oneness into reality, opined Central Minister for Planning and Programme Implementation D V Sadananda Gowda.
“The district has made immense contribution to defence forces and sports. Sports help in the development of physical and mental health of an individual by instilling positive thoughts to transform lives. Paikera Cup provides the ideal setting to promote the vision in a district which is favourite among tourists”, said Sadananda Gowda while inaugurating the Paikera Cup cricket tournament organised by the Kodagu Gowda Youth Forum at General Thimmaiah district stadium.
Echoing similar sentiments, Janata Dal (S) State President and former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy said sports help remove mistrust among people to promote integrity in the society.
Former Assembly speaker and MLA K G Bopaiah said united efforts from the community set example for others to emulate, appreciating the efforts of Gowda community.
Madikeri MLA Appachhu Ranjan hoped more sportsmen from the district represent the nation in the field of hockey and cricket and wished them success.
MLC Sunil Subramani said sport runs in the blood stream of people from the region and more than 50 have excelled at national level from the district and talked on the essence of unity and positive attitude.
Kodava Sahitya Academy President Kalayya Girish said by boosting sport activities efforts should be made to promote culture and literature of the region.
Shambunatha Mahaswamiji of Adichunchanagiri Matt overseeing Hassan and Kodagu area, showered his blessings on the event.
Former minister B A Jivijaya, MLC Veena Achaiah, Paikera Manohar Madappa representing Kodagu Youth Forum, Gowda Samaja President Periyana Jayanand, Gowda Vidaya Sangha President Hosur Ramesh Joyappa, Kattemane Sonu and others were present on the occasion.
