Madikeri: A group of retired paramilitary forces personnel held a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office demanding grant of special pay, OROP and restoration of pension scheme for hundreds of personnel in the district.

Alleging discrimination by the government, the association President M G Yatish said veterans of forces like CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP and Assam Rifles are also demanding sanction of a number of welfare benefits for retired personnel of these forces. The union government has totally failed to fulfil its assurances of extending OROP benefits to retired personnel, he alleged.

“We have some genuine demands like the One Rank One Pension, monetary benefits for around 1200 hapless widows of paramilitary personnel”, said association Vice President P M Chengappa but rued over the fact that the government had neglected their demands. Because of lackadaisical attitude of the union government, the youth in the district are not coming forward to join the paramilitary forces, he stated.

The association members submitted a plea consisting of 12 demands to the DC on the occasion.
