Madikeri: The Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) and Kodagu district unit of Hasiru Sene had organised a massive vehicle rally from Kutta to Madikeri urging the government to fulfill the requirements of the farmers, on Friday, April 12.

Hundreds of members from the KRRS led by the Kodagu district unit President Kadyamada Manu Sommaiah, formed a human chain at Kutta bus stand demanding solution for the farmers’ problems from the government. Progressive farmer Machimada C Subbaiah of Kutta gave the green signal for the vehicle procession.

Speaking on the occasion, former senate member of Karnataka State Agricultural University and progressive farmer Pucchimada Lala Poonacha said, “Nobody is concerned about the farmers. Hence the Farmers’ Association has decided to fight for the basic requirements of the farmers. The farmers of the district should come forward and join hands with the farmers’ associations in the fight against the government to meet our requirements”.

State Agricultural Awardee and ex-serviceman Someyanda Ganesh said, “Farmers are not getting the support price for their produce. Even the loan waiver scheme of the government is not satisfactory. The state government should fulfill the requirements of the farmers.”

Kutta division VSSN Bank President Macchamada Subramani said, “The non-political protest by the farmers’ associations is getting support from across the state and the farmers of Kodagu must intensify protest by joining hands with the association.”

Thithimathi farmers leader Cheppudeera Karriappa also addressed the gathering. Kadyamada Manu Sommaiah said that the candidates contesting in the LS polls should consider the demands of the farmers and join hands in resolving the issue.

The procession reached from Kutta to Deputy Commissioner’s office in Madikeri via Srimangala, Hudikeri, Ponnampet, Gonikoppa, Virajpet and Murnad.

Chetrumada Sujay Boppaiah, Pucchimada Subash Subbaiah, Mandepanda Praveen, Ajjamada Changappa, Devanira C Bopanna, Sabitha Beemaiah, Kukkanuru A Somanna, Peter John, Ichettira Subbaiah and many others were present in the protest.
