Madikeri: The Central government conferred Sampaje Grama Panchayat with Deendayal Upadhyay Panchayat Sashaktikaran Puraskar to coincide with the Commemoration of the National Panchayat Raj Day on April 24 at Lucknow.
Sampaje GP is one among the four from the state and chosen among thirty thousand GPs nationwide for the award in recognition of its efforts in carrying out developmental activities.
Sampaje Gram Panchayat utilised natural water flowing downhill and supplied the same to the villages in its territory through a pipe line. Pambechal, Chittegana, Kuntikana, Manyadka, Guddegadde, Arekalla and Kalyala are some of the villages which benefitted from the GP natural water supply through tankers.
Developing basic village infrastructure, holding ward level and Anganawadi meetings, organising health camps and information workshops are some of the other initiatives recognised while bestowing the rare honour on the GP. The GP has successfully implemented all the projects with proper utilisation of all government grants and for making village open defecation free by constructing toilets for all households within the GP limits in the village which has 776 families and 3859 people.
Grand welcome awaits GP President and PDO
Gram Panchayat President Balachandra Kalagi and Panchayat Development Officer Shobharani received the awards at a function held in Lucknow on Monday, April 24. Villagers have decided to accord a grand welcome to them on their return.
“Natural water is supplied to about 600 homes which do not have electricity connections. GP has achieved 100 percent target in housing. We have worked on the development of the village using all government grants. MLA K G Bopaiah, elected representatives, panchayat members, officials, staff and villagers have all contributed their might to ensure GP’s success at national level”, said GP President Ramachandra Kalagi, expressing happiness after receiving the award.
