Madikeri: Codava National Council has demanded the state government to make sure that the word ‘Kodava’ is introduced in caste related documents and ‘Kodagaru’, which is being used at present is done away with.

Addressing a news conference on Tuesday, CNC President N U Nachappa said that documents in the state refer to ‘Kodavas’ as ‘Kodagaru’, which is incorrect and must be rectified at the earliest. He pointed that in 2015, the Karnataka High Court had stated before the caste-based census that word ‘Kodava’ must be used. Further, Dr Dwarkanath Commission had made the same recommendation, to which the state cabinet had given its approval.

However, without a gazette notification in this regard, the Kodavas are still being addressed as ‘Kodagaru’ in state documents.
