Madikeri: Sarvajanika Hitarakshana Vedike on Sunday accused miscreants of trying to disrupt peace in Madikeri during Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanthi.

Vedike president Janardhana addressing a press meet, said, “On the day of Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanthi, few miscreants put up a board in the name of ‘Tippu’ to a road in Palemadu with an intention to disrupt peace in the region. Though complaint was registered against those who tried to attack cops who went to remove the signboard, they have not been arrested.

These boards were put up illegally and when PDO of the gram panchayath and cops questioned their move, they tried to attack. Several roads in Palemadu Paisari were named after renowned personalities from the last several years. But this time miscreants tried to disturb peace in the region by putting up a signboard named after ‘Tippu’ who is hated by the people of the district.

He alleged that self proclaimed leaders like Monnappa, Nirvanappa, Amin Mohiseen and others tried to disturb peace in the region.

Opposing a walk organised from May 2 to 3 through Palemadu to Madikeri, he said that the vedike will hold protest in front of DC’s office demanding arrest of anti-social elements.

Though the issues like forest land can be solved in a peaceful manner, some of the self proclaimed leaders have taken violent steps. There are attempts to fool the people of the region, he said demanding ban on anti-social elements entering Palemadu.
