Bengaluru: Another major setback to Karnataka has been announced by the Supreme Court today, 20 September 2016. Farmers all over Karnataka are expressing concern over the SC order.
According to the recent development, the Supreme Court has asked Karnataka to release 6,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu everyday for another week. The water release will start tomorrow, 21st September and go on till 27th September 2016.
Maade Gowda, Former MP said that peaceful protests will continue and arrests will not stop the protestors. Prohibitory orders are in place in 5 taluks of Mandya. Schools and colleges in Mandya have declared holiday on 21st September.
SC asks center to form Cauvery Water Management Board within four weeks which will decide the sharing of the water among the states. Protests in Mandya have broken out following the fresh orders of Supreme Court.
As per the math, more than 1.72 Lakh cusecs of water has been released to Tamil Nadu since September 5.
Updates on the issue –
Security has been tightened in sensitive areas. 15,000 policemen, 30 platoons of CAR police, 114 Quick Response team and 270 hoysala security jeeps has been deployed and 320 surveillance cameras will be installed in sensitive areas.
Next hearing on the issue will be on September 27th in the Supreme Court.
CM Siddaramaiah to take critical decision on 21st September after a cabinet meeting. He is also looking up to the Congress High Command for advice. His legal advisors have asked him to follow the Supreme Court decision to avoid legal problems.
