Srirangapatna: Politicos go to any extent to please their bosses to win their confidence. In one such attempts, a Congress ticket aspirant went to the extent of showering a garland of apples, weighing 300 kgs in total on state energy minister D K Shivakumar.
The incident took place in Srirangapatna, when D K Shi , who is also the state election campaign committee chief, visited the town to quell rebellion in the party.
Congress party ticket aspirant Induval Sachidananda accompanied by fans, took out a procession in his honour before garlanding their favourite leader with the 300 kg apple garland, which had flowers too. Being aware of the difficulty associated, they even employed a crane for the purpose!
Divided opinions appeared over the fanfare soon after the event, where a whopping Rs 1.6 lakhs was spent for the apple garland. Critics termed it as ‘politics of bigwigs’, while fans termed it as ‘act of admiration’.
True to go with political culture associated with such fan fare, gathered fans were seen fighting for their share of apple bite in the end!
