Cops nab man using free drop to rob people

Mandya: The Crime Branch Police on Saturday, May 11, nabbed a notorious thief here who, under the pretext of giving a drop to the people. was robbing them.

The police have recovered a car, gold jewellery and mobile phones worth Rs 4.5 Lakh.

The accused is Venkatesh alias Gunda, who is basically from Huliyurdurga village of Kunigal town, Tumakuru district.

According to police, Venkatesh used to fool the passengers at Bengaluru bus stand by giving them drop service.

After the gullible passengers got into his car, he would drive them near to Kunigal town or Bengaluru-Mangaluru National Highway at Bellur Cross. Here he and his gang mates used to pull out a knife and threaten them. Later, they used to tie them up with clothes, cover their mouth and escape with the victims’ mobile phones, jewellery and cash.

A case had been filed in the Bellur Police Station in this connection, a few days ago.

With the directions from Superintendent of Police Shivaprakash Devaraj, a Crime Branch team led by DySP Mohan Kumar and Circle Inspector Nanjappa nabbed the prime accused Venkatesh.

The police have recovered valuables worth of Rs 4.5 Lakh and produced him before the JMFC Court. He has been remanded to judicial custody.

PSI Azharuddin, Crime Branch staff Indrakumar, B Hanif, Ramesh, Siddaraju and Shivaleela Karigar had assisted.
