Mandya: While the painful incidents of farmer suicides continue in the state, here in Mandya a debt-ridden farmer who committed suicide made a rather ‘different’ last wish in his death note.

Former CM and JD(S) state president H D Kumaraswamy hospitalised-1

Shivanna, a 53-year-old farmer from B Hosuru village of Mandya had hanged himself to death on Thursday after he was unable to repay his debts. However, in his death note he had written that he wanted former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy to be present during his last rites.

Shivanna, who has a land holding of five acres had a loan of Rs eight lac. But, when all his efforts to pool together money to clear his loans failed, on Thursday he headed to his farmland and hanged himself to a tree there, leaving behind a death note mentioning about his last wish. In the letter he has also urged his friend Krishnegowda to help his family.

However, as per sources, former CM Kumaraswamy is expected to reach the farmer’s village at 6 pm to take part in the last rites.

On learning about the death of the farmer and his last wish, HDK, who was in Belagavi announced a relief of Rs one lac on his personal behalf. He is said to have left the Belagavi sessions half way through to fulfill the last wish of his fan.
