Forest officials shoot deer hunter in Mandya

Mandya: Forest officials on Friday September 3 shot a person who was allegedly part of a poacher’s gang. It is said that a gang of four poachers hunted a deer and brought it to their home from Basavanabetta forest in Malavalli Taluk of Mandya district.

Hearing a gunshot sound, Deputy Range Forest Officer and staff rushed to the spot. Four people were seen carrying a hunted deer. When officials told to surrender, it is reported that the poachers tried to abscond. When forest officials opened fired, a poacher sustained gunshot injuries on leg.

The injured has been shifted to Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences and is out of danger.  The other three managed to escape. Forest officers are searching to nab the accused. A case has been registered by Halagur Police.
