Mandya: Congress leader N Cheluvaraya Swamy has asked the Congress-Janata Dal (S) coalition here on Wednesday, May 2, if it was a sin on his part to have lunch with Mandya Lok Sabha independent candidate Sumalatha Ambareesh.
Speaking to media, he said, “Some of the political leaders from Mandya and Sumalatha’s friends were called for a lunch in one of the hotels in Bengaluru. I was also a part of the lunch. Is it wrong if someone attends a friendly get together and has lunch with them?”
“I had met Sumalatha several times after the elections at her residence and she has been very friendly with me. Unnecessarily, creating a hue and cry out of this and politicising it, is not ethical. There is no point in colouring it politically as the elections are already over and the people have decided”, he added.
He taunted the state coalition and said, “People who are painting a political picture of the meet lack common sense.”
Cheluvaraya Swamy also said that he had not met her during the Lok Sabha election campaigning and held closed door meetings.
“I have followed the coalition principles and the instructions of the Congress party high command”, he said.
