Mandya: More than 100 unmarried youth launched the padayatra to Male Mahadeshwara Hills praying to show mercy on them and provide brides. The youth from different parts of the District started a padayatra from Venkateshwara Swamy Temple in Mandya on Thursday Februaty 23 to Male Mahadeshwar Hill with the slogan of ‘Brahmacharigala Nade Male Madappanedege’ (Bachelors’ walk towards Male Madappa)
Film Actor Dolly Dhananjaya flagged off the yatra at 5.00 am and said, “One should marry the children of farmers who are the breadwinners of the country with all love and should not be looked down upon. He called upon farmers to give their daughters to sons of soil. He also went to Malavalli Main Road and bid farewell to the pilgrims. More than 100 youth who are farmers themselves and some working in private organisations continued carrying saffron-coloured flags. Along the way, they chanted slogans like ‘Jai to Mahadeshwar Swami’ and ‘Ughe Mahadeva’.
The parents of girls are looking for youth in Government and private MNC jobs. Thus thousands of youth remain unmarried across the District. A youth said “We are doing the padayatra to remove the title of unmarried through worshipping god.”
A few months ago, in the Vokkaliga bride-groom convention organised by Adi Chunchanagiri Matha, there was confusion in the convention as more than 25000 grooms came in to select brides-to-be from a total of just 700 to 800.
Tired of this development, unmarried youth have started a padayatra with the prayer that ‘by the grace of God, let us get a girl’. Traversing Malavalli, Kollegala, Hanur, Kaudalli, and Talubetta, the Yatra will reach Mahadeshwara Hill on Saturday February 25.
