Mandya: While the festival of lights is being celebrated across the globe. However, in Melukote of the District BJP Yuva Morcha workers observed black day to express solidarity with the Ayyangari community.
According to historians, erstwhile King Tipu Sultan massacred 800 Mandyam Ayyangari Brahmin Community people on Deepavali day in the 1790s. Owing to the killing of innocent and unarmed Brahmins, the community even now is not celebrating Deepavali for the last 200 years.

He said, “Tipu was a fanatic and not a freedom fighter. Congress Leader Siddaramaiah to woo the Muslim voters is projecting him as a tiger. It is nothing but vote bank politics. He attacked Tipu as a coward and bigot.
