Mandya: Kodala villagers catch thieves, pardon them

Mandya: Villagers of Kodala Village in Pandavapura Taluk of the District caught thieves red-handed and let them go by pardoning them on night of Wednesday December 14.

It is said that thieves were stealing banana and other fruits at night since many months. The villagers soon formed teams to watch fields at night. During vigil villagers caught Santhosh, Bhaskar and Nishanth, all natives of neighbouring village Eregowdanahalli while escaping after stealing bananas from farmer Devaraju’s farm. It is said that the youths confessed stealing crops since many weeks.

The villagers took them to the temple and made them apologise. They were made to vow that they would not resort to theft in future.

The villagers let them to go by imposing fine which is the cost of crop to maintain harmony with neighbouring villagers. No police complaint was filed as gesture of good will, stated villagers.
