Mandya: Irked by the theme of a colourful dance by children, Energy Minister and in-charge of Mandya district D.K. Shivakumar abruptly stopped the performance at Vishweshwaraiah stadium on Monday, August 15.

The children displayed the portraits of the three government officers who committed suicide recently. They were performing to the tune of ‘Huttodyake sayodyake (why you should be born and why you should die without achieving the desired aim) from a movie ‘Shanthi-Kranthi’, starring Kannada actor Ravichandran. The potraits were of the two deputy superintendents of police, M K Ganapati and Kallappa Handibag, who committed suicide recently, and also of IAS officer, D K Ravi, who died under mysterious circumstances.

The minister took Deputy Director of Public Instruction Shivamadappa to task for allowing the kids to dance with the portraits. The authorities then turned off the song with the performance coming to an abrupt stop.

It may be recalled that the suicides of the three officers had not only embarrassed the government but also made Bengaluru development minister K.J. George tender his resignation after DySP Ganapathi mentioned his name in a television interview before committing suicide last month.
