Mandya: Newly appointed Supreme Court Judge BV Nagarathna hails from Engalaguppe Chatra village in Pandavapura taluk of Mandya district.
President Ram Nath Kovind approved the list recommended by the Supreme Court collegium, paving the way for her to become the first CJI in 2027.
BV Nagarathna, born on October 30, 1962, completed SSLC at Sophia School in Bengaluru. As her father E S Venkataramaiah served as the SC judge at Delhi in 1987, she completed her further education there.
She received her degree at the Law College in Delhi in 1987. She started her career as an advocate in Karnataka High Court. Later, she was appointed as the additional judge of Karnataka High Court in 2008 and as a full-time judge in 2010. Her brother Justice E.S. Indresh is a High Court judge. Her father E. S. Venkataramaiah served as the 19th CJI in 1989.
