Mandya: Sumalatha Ambareesh, wife of actor/politician M H Ambareesh and independent candidate from the Mandya Lok Sabha constituency organised a joint press conference along with Karnataka’s most prominent farmer leader and MLA Late K S Puttannaiah’s wife Sunitha Puttannaiah, here on Wednesday, March 27.

Addressing the media at the joint press conference she said, “People of the country are well aware of ‘Mandyada Gandu’ (Man of Mandya) Ambareesh, now they’ll see ‘Mandyada Hennu (Woman of Mandya).”

“As I have received massive support from the farmers, my strength has doubled. We all come from a family of farmers. I know the hardships that our farmers face. Speaking for them in the parliament will be my privilege. I will work for them sincerely”, she added.

Criticising Water Resource Minister D K Shivakumar for comparing coalition candidate from Mandya Lok Sabha constituency, Nikhil Kumaraswamy to ‘Mandyada Gandu’, Sumalatha said, “I’m not sure to what extent it is acceptable, as people of the district know very well who is the original one.”

Slamming Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy for addressing Sandalwood actors Yash and Darshan as thieving bulls, she said, “They both have come up in life with their own potential. Whoever comes for my campaigning is because of the respect they have for Ambareesh.”

Speaking on the occasion, Sunitha Puttannaiah said, “There should be a dignified political competition and Sumalatha has that quality along with a determination to work for the farmers. Because of these reasons, the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) completely supports her. All the members of the farmers’ associations here will definitely participate in Sumalatha’s campaign.”

Later, a memorandum regarding various farmer-related demands was handed over to Sumalatha by Sunitha.

Meanwhile, Sumalatha has chosen three logos for her independent candidature representation. They are coconut farm, a farmer blowing the trombone and a farmer with sugarcane.

She has placed the same before the Election Commission and has requested to finalise any one. The logo will be finalised after the process of withdrawal of nomination on March 29.

In a joint press conference, Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha District President Shambunahalli Suresh, Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha Women’s Wing President Latha Shankar, leaders Madan, Vivekanand and others were present.
