Mandya: Three men died on the spot and two were seriously injured when a speeding car hit the road divider on Bengaluru–Mysuru highway to collide with a mini tempo coming in the opposite direction.
Shakil Ahmed (39), a resident of Gandhinagar, Farouq (38) of Mandya and Sagar (20) of Alakere of Mandya district are the deceased.
The accident took place during the late hours of the night near Colly circle of Maddur town leaving Dilip (21) and Shakim grievously injured. The speeding car’s driver travelling towards Bengaluru lost control of the vehicle and hit the road divider first. The car rolled over to the other side and ended colliding with a mini tempo coming in the opposite direction. Due to the severity of the impact, one of the occupants inside the mini tempo died and five more people travelling in another car too suffered injuries.
Shakil Ahmed and Farooq travelling in the car and Sagar travelling in the mini tempo died on the spot.
Five more people in one more car, all residents of Tumakuru town too were injured in the serial road accident but are out of danger. The injured are being treated at the Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) hospital.
Traffic police registered a case.
