Mandya: A stray dog which was walking away with the body of a newborn baby girl on the premises of Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences on Wednesday morning was chased away by the passersby here.

A police team that was formed to gather information on regarding the parents of the baby revealed that the baby’s parents – Samiullah and Rizwana, residents of Koppa had arrived in the hospital on Tuesday afternoon. However, Rizwana’s ultrasound scan report found that the baby had died in the womb and the body was handed over to family members in a bag after an operation on Tuesday evening.

Saimullah during the investigations said that while he was waiting at the hospital for his friend to cremate the body of the newborn his other child asked for something to eat. He reportedly left the bag at the spot as he went to fetch food for his kid. Till the time he returned the dog had carried away the bag which had the baby’s body.

Meanwhile since many people had gathered there Saimullah was scared to confess that it was his baby fearing harassment by the police.

A case of unnatural death has been registered by the Mandya police.
