Mandya: Independent candidate from Mandya Lok Sabha constituency, Sumalatha Ambareesh has slammed Congress and Janata Dal (S) leaders for “politicising” the death of actor/politician and her husband M H Amabreesh, here on Tuesday, March 26.

Speaking to media, she said that she had seen politics based on money, selfishness and lies but she would not tolerate anybody politicising the death of her husband.

Criticising the state coalition leaders of Congress and JDS, she said, “When the state government and Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy had helped in the arrangements for the funeral procession and last rites of my husband, I had thanked them personally. At this point of time, the question as to who is using his name and getting political gains must be answered by the coalition leaders and CM HDK.”

Sumalatha questioned the JDS party leaders if they did not have any other agenda but Ambareesh.

“Let them campaign by projecting the developmental projects implemented by Ambareesh when he was alive rather doing politics in the name of Ambareesh’s death”, slammed Sumalatha.

Commenting on JDS candidate Nikhil Kumarswamy contesting from Mandya LS constituency and taunting Water Resource Minister D K Shivakumar, she said, “He could have contested from Bengaluru Rural and DKShi could have managed it by asking his brother D K Suresh to step down.”

Supporting Sandalwood actors Yash and Darshan who are campaigning for her, she said, “It is unethical to accuse and harass them both as they are dignified people. They have achieved success in life without any support from others and they have worked hard to be what they are today.”

Referring to Public Works Department Minister H D Revanna’s derogatory remarks against her, she questioned, “CM HDK has accused Darshan of speaking ill about women but why was he mum and where was his respect towards women, when his own brother spoke so badly about me?”

Sumalatha also slammed Congress MLA and film producer Muniratna for his statement of Nikhil Kumaraswamy having chosen the venue for Ambareesh’s last rites. She said, “He has no rights to speak about Ambareesh and I know how he had taken help from my husband. Let him recall those days.”

Speaking on the trouble that she is facing during campaigning, she accused the state coalition leaders of engineering power cuts during her campaign and disrupting cable network. She said that she has filed a complaint with the election commission regarding this.

Meanwhile, Sunitha Puttanaiah, wife of Karnataka’s most prominent farmer leader and MLA Late K S Puttannaiah has stood by Sumalatha stating that no outsider shall be given a chance, to retain the dignity of Mandya. For this reason, the farmers’ association was with her.
