Mysuru: A seventeen-year-old girl from Mysuru, who was forced by her own family to tie the knot, exhibited courage by standing up for herself to fight the injustice that she was being subjected to.

This 17-year-old girl was being married off to a youth from Chikkabeechanahalli in Hunasuru taluk, much against her wishes.

All her efforts to convince her parents to arrange the wedding next year, when she reaches the legal age to get married fell on deaf ears and the stage was set for her wedding.

When she realised that her requests and logic were not being respected all that the young girl did was that she rung up the officials concerned and tipped them off about the wedding.

The officials who sprung into action immediately stopped the wedding from being solemnised and rescued the girl.

The officials also gave the parents a piece of advice. A case has been registered at Bilikere police station. However, the girl has been lauded by the police and the officials concerned for not succumbing to pressure, but standing up for herself.
