Mysuru: “Before coming to Chamarajanagar to campaign for the upcoming Assembly election, Prime Minister Narendra Modi should take action against Union Minister Ananth Kumar Hegde, who spoke about amending the constitution, and address the issues of the Dalit including atrocities on the community, providing reservation in private sectors, filling up of backlog vacancies and the dilution of the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act, else we will gherao him during his visit to Chamarajanagar,” said Chornalli Shivanna, Convenor, Dalit Sangarsha Samithi, Mysuru.

Addressing the media at the Press Club here on April 27, Shivanna said, “During Amit Shah’s visit to Mysuru, he held a meeting with the Dalit leaders. The various issues faced by the Dalit community were brought to his notice and he had assured us that they would be resolved at the earliest. However, nothing has been done so far. Ever since the BJP came to power four years ago, the prime minister has failed to do justice to the Dalit community and he is mum when it comes to incidents related to Dalits. This shows that they are against the Dalits, which is why we have decided not to vote for the BJP in the forthcoming election.”

He went on to add that they would give first preference to the Swaraj India Party (SIP) and would vote for their candidates. Following the SIP, he said that they would prefer Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) and then the Congress party. “We will support those candidates who can keep the BJP from winning in the upcoming election”, he concluded.
