Mysuru: Come February, a mother-daughter duo from Mysuru will undertake an aerial tour of the world in 80 days and that’s not all. Audrey Maben and Amy Mehta are looking forward to setting a world record by undertaking this awesome expedition covering nearly 40,000 km across 25 countries in a motor glider weighing below 1500 kg that will be piloted by Audrey.

A mother of three Audrey started flying gliders when she was aged 15. Sky was the limits for this lady, who went on to become the first woman microlight aircraft instructor in the country besides being the only woman ultralight pilot in the Air Race India in 2003.

19-year-old daughter Amy will be accompanying her mother and has taken special leave to go on the expedition. She will have the task of documenting their journey details on various social media platforms.

The duo will be travelling in a Sinus Pipistrel 912 engine ultralight motor glider(named MAHI by the duo) imported from Slovenia and are slated to take about 54 pit stops during the course of their journey. Also bearing the safety perspective in mind they will not be flying for more than five hours at a stretch since a micro flight can endure a maximum of 1200 km a day or around 5-6 hours in good weather conditions.

The journey is conceptualised by Social Access Communications as part of their campaign ‘WE! Women Empower’ that hopes to raise funds through the campaign to help train under-privileged girls who want to fly. It is being supported by a private TV channel and the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development.
