Mysuru: City-based Mysore Paints and Varnish Limited (MPVL), a PSU and sole producer and distributor of the indelible ink used in elections, has got an order from the Election Commission (EC) to supply nearly 4.51 lakh vials of ink measuring 10cc each. This order comes within days after the announcement of the polls in Maharashtra and Haryana and the by-polls in some other states.
According to reliable sources, the MPVL has received orders for the supply of 48,800 bottles of indelible ink (10 cc) for 18 states for the parliamentary and Assembly by-elections. The consignment has been already despatched and out of these, 11,000 bottles will be dispatched for the Karnataka Assembly by-polls by the end of this week. Further, the MPVL has received orders for 3,56,000 bottles of indelible ink (10 cc) for Maharastra and Haryana. A consignment for the same has also been despatched. Nearly 100 employees, including 50 permanent staffers, were involved in this process.
In 1962, the EC, in collaboration with Law Ministry, National Physical Laboratory and National Research Development Corporation, made an agreement with Mysuru Paints for the supply of indelible ink not only for the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, but also for elections of the municipalities, co-operative institutions and other organizations that, by law, require elections.
