Mysuru: Muslims alone embark on Haj pilgrimage, only Hindus take part in Kumbh Mela but the secular Dasara festival draws all people irrespective of caste, creed and social standing, opined Prof. Nissar Ahmed at the inaugural of Dasara-2017 attaching great importance to the festival of the land.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Nissar Ahmed said, “I am very grateful to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who gave me an opportunity to inaugurate this year’s festival.” He delivered his speech by reciting the poetic versus of famous Kannada poet Dattatreya Ramachandra Bendre in the beginning.

“I am delighted to be a part of this event at the inaugural as the chief guest and consider myself fortunate to be in this historic fest which showcases the rich tradition”, Prof. Nissar said.

“I feel proud as the greatest honour is bestowed upon me and am overwhelmed by the occasion”, said Prof. Nissar and added, “There is no match for Dasara festivities in the entire world.”

“Suttur Seer released his book on September 20 and I attentively listened to his views”, said Prof. Nissar and advised CM Siddaramaiah to do the same, as the latter is known to invariably ignore “key poetic phrases!”

He concluded his speech by terming Mysuru as a city of rich cultural heritage in comparison to Bengaluru, a contaminated city .
