In a social media post, Simha highlighted the irony of the situation. He pointed out that Raghupati Bhat, known for his stand against the “Jihadi mentality” by confronting the issue of students wearing burqas in Udupi schools, was not awarded the MLC ticket. Simha described this outcome as unfortunate, implying that the party’s decision was a slight against Hindutva values. He suggested that the party has reached a point where those defending Hindutva are sidelined and ridiculed, even drawing a comparison to the treatment by the burqa-wearing students.

Background on Raghupati Bhat

Raghupati Bhat was denied a ticket in the 2023 assembly elections, which was instead given to Yashpal Suvarna, who went on to win the election. Following this, Bhat had hoped to secure a ticket for the graduate teacher’s constituency, but was again overlooked. Disappointed, Bhat entered the fray as an independent candidate. In response, the BJP expelled him from the party for six years for contesting as a non-party candidate.

The controversy reflects internal conflicts within the BJP regarding candidate selection and the representation of Hindutva values. As the situation unfolds, it will be crucial to observe how the party manages these internal disputes and addresses the concerns of its prominent leaders.”
