Mysuru Bandh Called for January 7, 2025, in Protest Against Amit Shah’s Remarks
Several organizations, including Dalit groups, Backward Class Organizations, and the SDPI (Socialist Democratic Party of India), have called for a bandh in Mysuru on January 7 to demand the sacking of Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his controversial remarks against Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in Parliament. The bandh has gained support from various associations such as the Auto Owners Association, taxi and public transport operators, APMC workers, trade unions, labor unions, and Muslim organizations.
K.S. Shivaram, President of Karnataka Rajya Hindulida Vargagala Jagruta Vedike, announced the formation of 6-7 teams to ensure the success of the bandh. These teams will be stationed at key locations, including the KSRTC Sub-Urban Bus Stand, City Bus Stand, and major roads leading to and from the city, to halt transport services.
Former Mayor Purushotham, speaking at a press meet, emphasized that Dr. Ambedkar is a symbol of pride for millions of Dalits and marginalized communities. He criticized Prime Minister Modi for not taking action against Amit Shah and urged immediate dismissal from the Cabinet. He also warned that a “Delhi Chalo” march would be organized if Shah remains in his position.
The City Hotel Owners’ Association has extended moral support to the bandh, with members planning to wear black bands and participate in the protest at 10 am. While acknowledging the importance of their businesses, the Association reiterated their commitment to stand against disrespect toward leaders like Dr. Ambedkar.
