Mysuru: Commuters at the Ring Road Junction on the Bengaluru–Mysuru Road have urged the authorities to provide a dedicated KSRTC bus stop and a pre-paid auto stand, citing growing inconvenience caused by the ongoing flyover construction.

The junction has become an important transit point for residents, workers and students travelling between Mysuru and surrounding areas. However, commuters say the absence of basic facilities has made daily travel increasingly difficult.

KSRTC buses often pass without stopping

Residents said KSRTC buses rarely stop at the junction unless the traffic signal is red. This has created difficulties for hundreds of workers from the nearby Metagalli Industrial Area and college students who depend on public transport during peak hours.

Rajeshwari, a government teacher who travels daily towards K R Pet taluk, said the junction is particularly useful as passengers can board buses without travelling to Mysuru’s Sub-Urban Bus Stand.

Commuters suggested that more non-stop and luxury services could originate from the junction to reduce pressure on the city bus stand and traffic within Mysuru.

Traffic congestion worsens during flyover work

Local resident Somashekar said traffic congestion has increased considerably due to the flyover construction and claimed that even ambulances face difficulty passing through the area.

Commuters have also sought a pre-paid auto stand, alleging that some drivers refuse trips to certain destinations or charge passengers excessively. The lack of designated parking has also resulted in autos being parked on footpaths.

No shelter adds to passenger hardship

Passengers are also forced to wait in the open as there is no proper bus shelter at the junction. Auto driver Mahesh said the situation becomes particularly difficult during heavy rain and extreme heat.

Fruit seller Fasil highlighted another concern, alleging that two-wheelers are parked on the footpath outside a private hospital, forcing pedestrians to walk along the congested road.

Authorities cite construction constraints

Assistant Traffic Inspector Mahadev said the difficulties are largely temporary and linked to the ongoing flyover construction. He said there is currently insufficient space to establish a bus stop safely.

Authorities are expected to assess the situation after the flyover work is completed and make necessary arrangements based on traffic and safety requirements.
