Mysuru district comes up with mass marriage to uplift poor

Mysuru: With an aim to help the economically backward sections and poor from redundant loans and pressure of getting their kith and kin married, Deputy Commissioner (DC) C Shikha has come out with a proposal to conduct mass marriages in the district.

Addressing a meeting at the Government Guest House on Thursday July 9, the DC said that even poor people were opting for loans of Rs. 5-6 lakh to conduct marriages and thus landing in financial debts. Hence, the Tahsildars of all taluks should supervise the arrangements for mass marriages by giving the Samudaya Bhavans (Community Halls) for free, she added.

The Muzrai-owned Temple priests should conduct the mass marriages and the industrialists may be asked to sponsor for food during the mass marriages, DC Shikha suggested.

The Revenue Officials should initiate measures to address the grievances of farmers at Hobli and Taluk levels and find solutions, apart from extending Government aid at the time of bereavement in a farmer’s family, she added.

Additional DC M.S. Archana, Mysuru Assistant Commissioner Syeda Aiisha, Hunsur Assistant Commissioner Jagadish, Joint Director of Agriculture Mahanteshappa and Mysuru Taluk Tahsildar A. Naveen Joseph were among those present at the meeting.
