Mysuru: Taking a major stride toward sustainable urban mobility, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is preparing to roll out 100 electric buses for intra-city transport in Mysuru. Following the success of electric buses between Bengaluru and Mysuru, known for their smooth and quiet rides, this expansion is expected to revolutionize daily commutes within the city.

The Mysuru division has been tasked with identifying appropriate city routes for these e-buses. Proposed areas include Chamundi Hill, JP Nagar, L&T, Yelwal, KRS, Palahalli, Srirangapatna, and Nanjangud, with more locations under review. A detailed route plan report has already been submitted for evaluation.

To support this green initiative, the Banni Mantap depot, which was previously closed after the merger of rural and city divisions, will be revamped into a dedicated maintenance hub for electric buses. The depot is being equipped with upgraded infrastructure, staff facilities, and specialized maintenance services to ensure efficient operation of the upcoming fleet.

According to HT Veeresh, Divisional Controller of KSRTC Mysuru City Division, the project is still in its early phase, but Mysuru’s status as a tourist hotspot made it an ideal location for this eco-conscious pilot project.

This move positions Mysuru on the path to becoming a model for clean and modern public transportation in Karnataka.
