The Mysuru KSRTC Suburban Bus Stand Ulisi Horata Samithi has urged the state government to reconsider its plan to shift the KSRTC suburban bus stand operations from the city center to Bannimantap in north Mysuru.
Association president Ravishastri, who is also vice-president of the Karnataka Hotel Owners’ Association, stated that the relocation would cause major inconvenience to passengers, hoteliers, shopkeepers, vendors, and restaurants. He also pointed out that the government has allocated ₹120 crore for the new project, which could place an unnecessary financial burden on the exchequer.
Prominent trade and industry leaders, including Mysore Chamber of Commerce and Industry president KB Lingaraju, Federation of Organisations and Associations of Mysuru president BS Prashanth, CREDAI president D Srihari, NAREDCO president Ravikumar, and SKAL International president CA Jayakumar, suggested expanding the existing suburban bus stand instead. They proposed utilizing a portion of the 70-acre government guest house land, requiring only 10 acres for expansion.
Narayanagowda C, president of the Hoteliers Association, recommended using the vacant People’s Park area for expansion. He highlighted that the government had already spent ₹130 crore under the JNNURM scheme to expand five bus stands in Mysuru, of which only two are operational while the rest remain underutilized.
The group also proposed diverting rural buses to existing bus stands in Sathgalli, Kuvempu Nagar, and RS Naidu Nagar to ease congestion at the suburban bus stand, which faces traffic issues mainly during the festival season. They argued that the current location, near the railway station, deputy commissioner’s office, Mysuru Palace, and Mysuru Zoo, is crucial for public convenience.
Representations have been submitted to Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, District Minister HC Mahadevappa, and Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, seeking their intervention. Meanwhile, KSRTC officials have clarified that only 50% of operations would be relocated to Bannimantap, while the suburban bus stand would continue to function.
