Mysuru: With the civic workers on contract basis going on a stir keeping forth their various demands, the Mayor of Mysuru City Corporation donned the cap of a civic worker on Tuesday.
Surprising but true, the Mayor came out of his comfort and took up broom in his ward and cleared the garbage that was piling across the ward.
MCC Contract conservancy workers had started an indefinite strike demanding implementation of various demands. On Tuesday, the stir entered its Day-2 leaving the city literally smothered in squalor.
The heavy rainfall on Monday night worsened the situation in prime areas of the city like Devaraja Market increasing the stench emanating from heaps of garbage mixed with stagnant water.
Mayor M J Ravikumar engaged himself in cleansing his ward, driving the message to people to do likewise.
Permanent civic workers provided him necessary help, equipment and machines to clear the garbage from certain roads of his own ward. Corporation officials too joined the cleanliness drive.
