Mysuru Palace Heritage Concerns: Pigeon Feeding Issue Addressed

Mysuru Palace Heritage Concerns Pigeon Feeding Issue Addressed

Deputy Commissioner KV Rajendra of Mysuru directed officials to raise awareness against feeding pigeons around the Mysore Palace, particularly at the north gate (Balarama Gate). Concerns have been raised about the pigeons’ droppings affecting the heritage structure’s beauty and stability.

In a meeting involving the Mysuru Palace Board, Mysuru City Corporation, and other officials, Rajendra discussed the issue following complaints from heritage experts and various organizations. Reports indicated that philanthropic organizations and tourists regularly feed large quantities of grains to hundreds of pigeons, posing a threat to the palace’s cleanliness and structural integrity.

Rajendra emphasized the need to protect the palace’s aesthetics and cleanliness within a two-kilometer radius. He urged officials to educate the public about the impact of feeding pigeons and proposed establishing alternative feeding locations for birds.
