Mysuru: City residents are being cautioned against posting inflammatory or provocative content online, as Mysuru police ramp up surveillance on social media to preserve law and order following recent disturbances.
A man from Andhra Pradesh was recently booked for sharing provocative content, triggering intensified monitoring. Following this, eight Mysuru locals were booked for uploading and debating videos related to the May 5 murder of rowdy-sheeter Karthik, either supporting or opposing the act.
All those identified have been instructed to maintain peace and good conduct, with formal undertakings signed to this effect. Police warned that any breach will result in FIRs being filed immediately.
Commissioner Seema Latkar has issued a strong warning to both sides involved in the online discourse surrounding Karthik’s killing. She confirmed that a 52-member social media surveillance unit has been deployed to actively track and report offensive or fear-inducing content across all platforms.
The aftermath of the murder saw alarming and threatening messages circulating, sparking fear among citizens. The police emphasized that strict legal action awaits anyone who spreads content that threatens communal harmony.
In a broader crackdown, 61 known rowdies had their homes searched and were summoned for a parade, part of the force’s wider initiative to curb rising criminal tendencies and reinforce control.
The message is clear — law and order will not be compromised, either on the streets or online.
