Mysuru: Mysuru railway station has become the first visually challenged-friendly station in the country. Tactile maps of the railway station and train schedules in Braille were unveiled to facilitate visually impaired train passengers here on Tuesday.
Visually impaired Soumya, Chunchitha and Dr Uday Kumar inaugurated the facility in the presence of Mysuru MP Pratap Simha and Divisional Railway Manager Rajkumar Lal.
Along with tactile maps of the station describing the location and distance of entrance, platforms, counters, washrooms etc, schedule of trains, showing their arrival and departure time, the authorities have also put up 400 metal signages in Braille along the railings of the staircases leading to various platforms.
The menu cards at the canteen and food plaza at the station will also be available in Braille now, a Railway official said.
The facility which cost Rs 55000, is the brainchild of Anuprayaas, an NGO working for the blind.
