Mysuru: Residents of Mysuru city can now seek timely intervention from the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) or the forest department if they notice trees or branches posing a risk to life or property in their surroundings.
Any removal of trees or large branches requires official approval from the forest department, the primary custodians of the city’s greenery. Over the past year, more than 250 hazardous branches and trees were cleared following complaints from residents.
To initiate action, individuals must submit a formal application to either MCC or the forest department. Upon receiving a request, the forest department evaluates the tree’s health and threat level. Officials consider factors such as disease, instability, proximity to homes or power lines, and the tree’s overall structure before approving removal.
In urgent cases, especially during the monsoon season or extreme weather, residents are urged to contact the MCC control room immediately for quicker response. The forest department also urges citizens to undertake preventive care, like regular pruning and treating infected trees, to avoid risks.
Last year, the forest department received 87 formal applications, out of which approval was granted for trees deemed genuinely dangerous. Once approved, trained teams carry out the removal, ensuring all safety protocols are followed.
Authorities also encourage residents to plant new saplings in place of those removed to help preserve Mysuru’s urban green cover.
Contact MCC or the forest department for guidance on maintenance or removal of potentially hazardous trees.
