Mysuru: Ahead of International Yoga Day celebrations, Mysureans have started practising yogasanas at different parks and venues across Mysuru. The spirits are high as the district is aiming big.
In a bid to create a world record by performing yoga under a single platform, Mysuru is eyeing for more than 1.5 lakh people during International Yoga Day, which will be held at Race Course Ground on June 21.
To create awareness and attract more people for International Yoga Day the organizers have also planned to rope in more than 10 brand ambassadors from different fields including former Indian fast bowler Javagal Srinath.
Last year Mysuru managed to attract more than 60,000 people, which was highest and even broke the record of previous year’s international record where more than 55,000 people turned up to take part in the International Yoga Day celebrations.
Last year, more than a lakh people turned up at Kota in Rajasthan, where Baba Ramdev took centre stage, this year Mysuru is planning to break that record. The preparation started six months ago. On Sundays, yoga enthusiasts take part in yoga sessions at various parks across the city including at Sougandhika Park in Kuvempunagar.
Sri Hari of GSS Yogic Science Foundation, who was the man behind getting all Yoga centres under one roof and instrumental in successfully organizing International Yoga day celebration in Mysuru said “Under Yoga Federation of Mysuru which includes more than 300 yoga schools and 1100 trainers, we have set a target to get 1.5 lakh participants for International Yoga day celebrations to be held at Race Course Ground on June 21. With a view to creating a world record, we started preparation six months ago. We have 1100 trainers who in turn go to schools, various organisations, companies and other sectors to create awareness about yoga and International Yoga Day celebrations. Apart from this, these trainers will have yoga practice in parks near their respective area, every Sunday. We are positive that we will attract more than 1.5 lakh people and create world record this time.”
“Though we created a world record in 2017 by attracting 55,506 people, last year in Kota, Rajasthan more than one lakh participants attended International Yoga day. Apart from Dasara, it’s only during International Yoga Day that we see a large number of people taking part voluntarily. International Yoga day should become and will become Mysuru Habba in days to come,” he said.
