Mysuru: Bhima Rao spoke on the CLSD Trust & the Legend Dr Olinda Pereira: S N Gopinath, Managing Trustee, briefed about CLSD (Centre for Leadership & Social Development ) trust and explained the objectives, motto, also mentioned the activities and members supported for the Trust. About the book: Legacy of a Legend- Dr Olinda Pereira, A Pioneer in Social Work Education & Practice Ravichandra Bekal, has given a brief about the book and the story of efforts made behind publishing the book. He acknowledged the support of members who extended their dedication to completing the book. The book talks about various personalities who were involved in the life of Dr Olinda Pereira and her impact and experiences which made an effect on them. Lecturer Session about Leadership – Keynote Speech by Dr V Prakash former director of CFTRI, Distinguished Scientist of CSIR- India, Padmashree Awardee, and Dr M Indira (Prof of Economics (Rtd) , DoS in Economics & Cooperation- University of Mysore) Dr V Prakash started by briefing about leadership qualities. He mentioned that leadership is not just about being in a position of authority rather it is about having a vision, inspiring others and making a positive impact in the lives of those around you. He mentioned about great leadership qualities of the HOYSALA Dynasty and their braveness which was remarked in building exceptional monuments (Belur) in the 14th century.

The younger generation has the power to make a significant impact on society, as they possess the energy, enthusiasm and creativity that can drive progress and positive change. The younger generation has the potential to be the leaders of tomorrow by nurturing their abilities and portraying a keenness to learn so as to lead a better future. For instance, he also mentioned how CFTR initiated to help at the time of the Tsunami crisis and distributed free food packets in a very short period of time to the victims exhibiting innovative leadership quality which was well appreciated by the whole Nation Some of the initiatives emerges without Leader, quoting which he said about the initiative of mid-day meal in Anganwadi and primary schools in rural areas was introduced without a leader.

This scheme was replicated across the country which helped many needy children and which has gained popularity and has been a successful scheme in India to promote education and nourishment. Leadership plays a crucial role in the implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility. CSR should be implemented in the true spirit, individuals, organizations, and corporates make this drive Compassionate Social Responsibility (CSR). The CSR activities should not just be limited to government standards set but should be committed to doing work beyond that Dr M Indira (Prof of Economics (Rtd), DoS in Economics & cooperation- University of Mysore) addressed the gathering and mentioned Today indicators of Social Development have significantly advanced. The country’s progress is assessed by GDP but also by Social Development Index. The government and non ~ government agencies play a vital role in Human Development and community development.

The corporate’s CSR programs need to take input from professionally qualified personnel and impact assessments of the CSR are important. During the occasion, Dr H P Jyothi (Associate Prof & Chairperson, Department of Social Work, University of Mysore) and Dr Jenis Mary (Vice principal, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru) also addressed the gathering and gave their insights. The event was beautifully concluded with a vote of thanks by Bhima Rao who spoke a few words about the event and the book and the whole event was successfully anchored by Shwetha Shetty — HR, Automotive axles Ltd, Mysore
