Mysuru: M. L. Raghunath, Principal District and Sessions Judge and Chairman of District Legal Services Authority said that the last and biggest Lok Adalat of the year will be held on November 12 to resolve the pending cases in City and Taluk Courts through conciliation.

While speaking to mediapersons at the Court Hall at Malalawadi here on Friday October 14, he said that a total of 1,12,443 cases are pending in the City and Taluk courts, out of which 59,555 are civil cases and 52,888 are criminal cases. Of these, 38,752 cases are likely to be disposed of. Similarly, 15,852 cases have been identified as likely to be compromised.

There are 3954 cases related to motor vehicle accidents, 2533 criminal cases that can be compromised, while 22,649 are cheque bounce cases, of which a total of 11,647 cases have been identified as cases that can be compromised including 4,418 cases and 742 pre-litigation cases not registered in courts.

There are 250 cases related to MUDA land acquisition and the MUDA Commissioner is ready to pay compensation. The Government has suggested to settle cases where land compensation can be given within Rs. 20 lakh and such cases will be disposed of, he said.

Most of the cases have been disposed of in the last three adalats. As many as 54,893 cases were disposed of in March, 75,562 in June and 57,548 in August. He said that officials of various departments have joined hands for the Adalat.

The Lok Adalat can resolve the dispute at the lowest cost and quickly. Here the order passed in the cases that can be compromise is as important as the order passed in the case of settlement in a court of law. Along with the time, the relationship between the clients will remain good. There is no need to pay any court fee. The parties can participate directly. If there is a compromised in the case, 100 per cent of the court fee will be refunded. There will be no provision for appeal against the Lok Adalat award (order), he said.

The Lok Adalat has the full support of the Bar Association. It has also been requested to settle the old cases along with the new cases. In The AdalatdDisposal of more cases will not result in the establishment of new courts. It also prevents the public from going to court. Thus the public is the Adalat. He also urged the public to take advantage of it.
