Mysuru: Nalwadi KR Wadiyar’s b’day celebrated

Mysuru: The Mysuru District Administration and Kannada and Culture Department  celebrated Sri Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar’s 138th birth anniversary here on Saturday June 4.

Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV (June 4, 1884 – August 3, 1940) was the 24th Maharaja of the Kingdom of Mysore from 1894 until his death in 1940. He was popularly called ‘Rajarshi,’ the name which was given by Mahatma Gandhi, for his administrative reforms and achievements.

He has been compared to Emperor Ashoka by the English Statesman Lord Samuel. Acknowledging Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV’s noble and efficient kingship, Lord John Sankey declared in 1930 at the Round Table Conference in London, “Mysore is the best administered state in the world.”

Mysuru District In-Charge Minister S. T. Somashekar, Mysuru-Kodagu Member of Parliament Prathap Simha, MLAs Tanveer Sait, L. Nagendra and S. A. Ramadaas, Mysuru Urban Development Authority Chairman H. V. Rajeev and Mysuru In-Charge Mayor Sunanda Palanetra paid floral tributes to the statue of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar at KR Circle in the City.
