Mysuru: Kukkarahalli Lake, spread over an area of more than 100 acres in the heart of the City, is in danger of getting into a dilapidated condition due to non-discharge of excess water.
The Kukkarahalli lake has been filled up due to good rainfall for the last two years and due to incessant rains for the past two weeks and continuous flow of water, the water level in the northern part of the lake (near Mysuru – Hunsur Highway) has risen.
As the lake is full, the polluted water from Paduvarahalli, which was stored on the other side of the lake area, is entering the lake, while the UGD line built on the ridge has collapsed and all the waste is flowing into the lake.
When the lake was filled with good rains during the monsoon, the University of Mysore authorities had to make arrangements for the release of excess water as a precautionary measure. But the pressure on the ridge has increased due to the neglect of this task. As a result, the water is leaking here and there and is flowing on the road next to the lake.
The University of Mysore (UoM) and Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) officials have been jointly installing motors for the last two days to drain out the excess water. The water coming out of the lake has also engulfed the herbal garden of the Government Ayurveda Medical College at the bottom of the lake.
