Mysuru: A special pooja was offered to Goddess Chamundeshwari atop Chamundi Hills on Friday July 1, the first Ashada month of the year. During the last two years owing to the corona pandemic Ashada special poojas were not conducted in the temple.
This year, though, with the situation under control, Chamundi Hills is a beehive of activities. Today being the first Ashada Friday the temple town woke up to a series of rituals lined up for the day. Braving the chilly weather, thousands of devotees made it to the temple early in the morning for the darshan of the Goddess.
The heritage city soaks in the festive atmosphere during the month of Ashada. People visit Chamduneshwari Temple to offer special poojas to the presiding deity during this time of the year. This year, the Temple authorities have made elaborate arrangements for the devotees.
Chamaraja MLA L. Nagendra was the first of the VIPs to visit the temple town. Obviously pleased with the visit, he said, “I have come to Chamundi Hills along with my family. District In-Charge Minister S. T. Somashekar ensured all the arrangements were done well in advance.”
He said, “Devotees are enthusiastic like never before. Free bus service has been arranged and everything has been systematic. Prasadam is also being distributed to the devotees. People are subjected to coronavirus test before the darshan.”
Chief Temple Priest Dr. Shashishekar Dikshit led the proceedings. He said, “Ashada is special for us. This is the month we worship ‘Shakti’ to bless us with all good things. Rudrabhisheka, Panchamruta Abhisheka and other rituals began early in the morning. As per the government orders, devotees have to follow Covid guidelines strictly. Temple will be open till 9.30 pm. Devotees are expected in thousands.”
