Mysuru: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has said that the Forest Department has been directed to constitute a special task force to capture a leopard that has attacked two to three times in the same place and take all necessary steps to conduct a combing operation.

Speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of Jatre organised at Suttur of the District, he said that he has received information that a boy was killed in a leopard attack at Horalahalli Village in T. Narasipura Taluk.

“I have consulted the authorities concerned and instructed them to take necessary steps to capture the leopard. A special operation has been ordered within two to three kms of such areas as the same leopard has attacked the places twice or thrice,” he added.

The Officials and Staff of the Forest Department and Police Department should act as gunmen and watchmen, he said and added a special force would be formed to prevent another attack on man and capture the leopard, immediately.

“People in the villages where the leopard has been spotted should be made aware not to come out of their houses at night. Instructions have also been given to call in the required staff from different districts to keep an eye on two to three kilometre-stretch,” he said.

“I have asked the Deputy Commissioner Dr. Rajendra K. V. to disburse compensation cheques to the family of the deceased boy from Horalahalli,” he said. He added the Government has taken a serious view of the leopard attack case.
